I have recently needed to install software on my PC that required administrator rights. This required me to go through our Help Desk and have someone else remote in and use their admin credentials. Unfortunately no matter what they tried to run using their admin account we would get a "file not found" error. This includes the installer in question, cmd, Task Manager, etc. Another remote support resource tried and got the same error.
Later the local resource was available, and for him everything worked fine! Is it possible that using Quick Assist would cause this? It doesn't feel likely.
Another option that I've been wondering about is that a few weeks ago the local resource manually deleted all of the other folders in C:\Users other than mine, his, "Default" and "Public" - could this have left corrupted profiles of some sort behind? That said, I don't think the first support account had done any work on my PC before.
In the Event Viewer I see these User Profile Service records in the application log for the failed attempts:
Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system. DETAIL - Access is denied.
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.
Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.
I'm unfortunately unable to view the security log to see if anything is in there.
I haven't managed to get much support from IT to investigate this so I'm asking here myself. Is there a way to fix this that I can get them to try?
